Game 1

Merchants Take Victory in High-Scoring Rain-Shortened Game Over Community Park Reds

The Innisfail Merchants bested the Community Park Reds in a high-scoring affair, 16-11 at Wally Footz field.

In the first inning, the Reds got their offense started with two singles followed by a walk, and after back-to-back sacrifice fly balls Community Park took an early 2-0 lead. After some sloppy fielding, Community Park would tack on three more runs in the second to take a commanding 5-0 lead.

The Innisfail squad would take advantage in two of the five-rain shortened innings by putting up 7 runs in their half of the third inning and another nine in the top of the fifth.

In the third a leadoff walk by Ty Moline would be followed up by Ty Ratzlaff’s team leading sixth hit-by-pitch. Two more walks and a single by Clayton Kary setup consecutive bases loaded RBI walks by second baseman Darin Fodor, and designated hitter Jack Henley. The third inning onslaught would be capped off by a Garett Hagel tripled on a 1-1 count that scored two more runs. The fifth inning saw the Merch compile three walks, two singles, two more hit batters, a triple and a bases clearing double by Fodor to put the Innisfail squad up for good.

Henley earned the win for Innisfail Merchants, as he surrendered three runs on two hits over one and one-third innings, striking out one.

Petryshyn took the loss for Community Park Reds, pitching all five innings, allowing 16 runs on nine hits and striking out two.

Brett Porter started the game for Innisfail and surrendered eight runs on five hits over three and two-thirds innings, striking out one

Rylen Zens led the Innisfail offense with three hits in four at bats, while Hagel added three walks and Fodor led the team in RBI with four.

The scheduled second game against the host Edmonton Padres was cancelled due to rain.
